Tempera painting and the Italian Renaissance

This course celebrates some of the highlights of the glorious Italian Renaissance and also allows you to try out the traditional painting method, egg tempera used so effectively in Florence during the Renaissance period.

We will visit the wonderful city of Florence, during which we will be looking at tempera and fresco paintings, as well as gaining a fascinating insight into the colourful stories that surround this amazing period of history.

This trip will form the basis of our research into technique and subject matter and much of our time will then be spent in the studio producing a small wooden triptych, painted with gesso, egg tempera and various glazes.
