Course dates; Spring, Summer and Autumn 2010
Many of our guests in 2009, particularly those coming from the US, Canada and Australia have suggested the idea of running extended 10 day workshops as a way of making the most of their time here. These 10 day courses give us the opportunity to spend at least one extra day in the studio completing the work, and also allow us to take a big trip at the end of the course to Florence for a guided tour around this spectacular city, taking in some of the great Renaissance masterpieces on show there.
We are, therefore, proposing to run two of these courses in 2010 (18th - 27th September and 2nd - 11th october) alongside our programme of week-long courses and workshops.
(Most of our courses remain week-long and run from Saturday to Saturday, our new 10 day courses continue until the following Monday)
1st May to the 8th May
A beginner's guide to painting and watercolour techniques
This is a course aimed at beginners and intermediate painters.
You may come with an idea of what you might like to improve, or you can come simply wanting to have a go, even for the very first time.
We will be painting and drawing in the delightful hilltop towns of Tuscany and Umbria, as well as some of the stunning landscapes that surround them. Your time will be split between working in the studio and painting out on location, and we will also find time to soak up some of the atmosphere of this wonderful country. ...learn more...

Extra course for Spring 2010
5th June - 12th June
Due to the demand for these Spring courses, we have decided to run an extra course in between those already planned. This first extra course will be along the lines of the Introduction to watercolour painting and so is aimed at either complete beginners, intermediate painters or those who simply enjoy painting. We will be exploring the basics of drawing and painting, establishing some simple techniques before taking trips to explore the local area. There will also be a day trip out on the Wednesday to see some Renaissance painting and architecture in a larger city. You will be able to draw inspiration from anything that captures your imagination and spend the rest of the week working to develop your ideas.

This course is aimed at people who enjoy painting or photography and would also like to experiment with some basic printmaking techniques. The week will be divided between working in the studio and painting and drawing in the surrounding area.
You can draw inspiration from anything that captures your imagination and spend the rest of the week working to develop your ideas. Our small group sizes will ensure that you will get plenty of individual tuition.

'Some like it hot' - workshop
This is another addition to our 2009 programme, as we appreciate that some of you would like to come out here in the heat of the Summer. The painting course runs just in the mornings, leaving the afternoons free to sit by the pool, sightsee or take a siesta (riposo). The course itself is aimed at people who enjoy painting or photography and would also like to experiment with some basic printmaking techniques. The week will be divided between working in the studio and painting and drawing in the surrounding area.
You can draw inspiration from anything that captures your imagination and spend the rest of the week working to develop your ideas. Our small group sizes will ensure that you will get plenty of individual tuition.

30th October - 6th November
Tempera painting and the Italian Renaissance
This course celebrates some of the highlights of the glorious Italian Renaissance and also allows you to try out the traditional painting method, egg tempera used so effectively in Florence during the Renaissance period.
We will visit the wonderful cities of Siena and Florence, during which we will be looking at tempera and fresco paintings, as well as gaining a fascinating insight into the colourful stories that surround this amazing period of history.
These trips will form the basis of our research into technique and subject matter and the rest of our time will then be spent in the studio producing a small wooden icon painting, using gesso, egg tempera mixed in mussel shells and various glazes. ...learn more...
